1. Shower Accessibility
If your home is going to have a bathtub, this is the bathroom to put it in. Having a bathtub in your home makes bathing accessible to all ages. But what about the bathrooms that are too small for a bathtub? Small bathroom design will include a shower that has a foldable chair, like this Wall Mounted Teak Shower Seat, as well as a handheld shower feature. These design features will allow the elderly the autonomy to wash themselves as well as the tools a parent may need to assist their young child.
2. Remodel Guest Bathroom with Open Linen Storage
Nothing feels more like a hotel at home than having a dozen clean towels to burn through during your weekend stay. Traditionally, guests won't open closets and start rummaging for the items that they need. For a good guest bathroom design, it is best to utilize floating shelves and showcase multiple size linens like towels, hand towels and washcloths.
3. No Smells Zone
Let's face it, when we relieve ourselves in the privacy of our own guest suite with loved ones we travelled so far with it can still be embarrassing to make them suffer through the 💩 smells when its late night and no where for them to go. To minimize smells from escaping the bathroom, I would invest in a bathroom ceiling fan that is quiet and puts out more than enough CFMs (cubic feet per minute) to circulate the air. Guest bathrooms are typically small, so any fan that produces 80 CFM or higher will work, like this Panasonic Quiet Whisper Fan that I use in all my bathrooms. I find that the sprays and candles put out for my guests just aren't as effective because it's almost like they are afraid to "ruin" the $5 candle by lighting it 🤣.
4. Guest Bathroom Lighting Design
A well designed bathroom will include 3 types of lighting for our guests.
Overall Lighting
This is the lighting in a guest bathroom that will be used the most. It's typically a part of the bathroom exhaust fan and is attached to the only light switch in the room.
Task Lighting
Ambient Lighting
5. Ample Outlets
Yes, we have arrived at that part of the future where we are designing bathrooms to have electronics in them. There are so many things that need to be plugged in as a part of our getting ready routine. From toothbrushes to razors, hair tools and flossers, it's a good idea to plan now for all of these things our guest might have! Whether it's including outlets inside of your vanity drawers or swapping your outlets out to include USB ports outlets, your guests will be thanking you!
Conclusion For a Well Designed Guest Bathroom Remodel
Guest bathroom design doesn't have to be overly complicated. Just imagine all the small bathroom features you would want to have when your stuck at someone else's house either unexpectedly, or even planned! And remember, a little goes a long way for guests. Accessibility, ease of use, and comfortability are good design practices for small guest bathroom design.
