Snickerdoodle Cookie Recipe
There’s a certain charm in the simplicity of a well-made snickerdoodle. These cookies are a delightful blend of soft, chewy texture and a sweet, cinnamon-sugar coating that makes them irresistible. Perfect for any occasion, snickerdoodles are a favorite among cookie lovers for their comforting flavor and ease of preparation. In this post, I’ll guide you through a foolproof recipe that will have you baking up the perfect batch in no time.
What Makes a Snickerdoodle Special?
Snickerdoodles stand out from other sugar cookies thanks to their signature tangy flavor, which comes from the addition of cream of tartar. This ingredient gives these cookies their distinctive tangy taste. Cream of tartar also stops the sugars in the dough from crystallizing when they are heated in the oven resulting in that soft and chewy texture! ✨ SCIENCE ✨
The cookies are also rolled in a cinnamon-sugar mixture before baking. When the cookie has cooled after baking, the sugar coating on the outside provides a slightly crisp outer exterior. The combination of the fluffy interior and the crisp exterior truly define and separate the snickerdoodle from any other cinnamon based dessert like this warm Banana Bread or this lovely seasonal Pumpkin Bread.
Skip the Dough Chilling
If you want to! It's perfectly okay to skip the dough chill. I totes understand not being able to wait a moment longer for some fresh baked cookies. I promise it will still be a cookie in the end. I'll go more into depth later about what sorts of benefits chilling our dough does in baking. When I bake, I usually make the dough ahead of time and wait for cooler times of the day to use the oven. I am always looking for ways to reduce my energy bills and this is one small effort towards that goal.
